In a significant move reflecting a shift towards a more inclusive governance model, West Bengal's Raj Bhavan has been officially renamed 'Lok Bhavan'. Governor C V Ananda Bose announced the renaming, aligning with a central government directive aimed at fostering a people-centric atmosphere.
The decision follows President Droupadi Murmu's symbolic gesture of handing over a key to the West Bengal Chief Minister, signifying the transition to 'Jana Raj Bhavan'. This initiative aims to make the establishment more accessible and responsive to public needs, reducing its aura of exclusivity.
Since the past three years, the focus has been on proactive public service, addressing issues such as natural disasters and social challenges. The change is part of a broader effort led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to involve citizens in India's development journey, as outlined in a Ministry of Home Affairs notification.
