The Special Investigation Team (SIT) currently investigating the case of missing gold from the Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple has taken the statement of Tantri Mahesh Mohanararu, according to officials on Sunday. The investigation focuses on the alleged removal of gold-clad idol plates and frames without due permission.

Sources indicate that the statement was recorded weeks back to ascertain whether necessary divine approvals were bypassed. Mohanararu, now the temple's chief priest, saw his role scrutinized over the alleged transport of gold-clad items by the accused, Unnikrishnan Potty.

The SIT is meticulously examining potential connections, including Mohanararu's interactions with other religious figures and a gold trader in Ballari. Meanwhile, multiple arrests have been made, including previous temple board presidents linked to the stolen gold's disappearance.
