The International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) is set to proceed with its scheduled screenings despite the central government's refusal to clear over a dozen films. Kerala Chalachitra Academy Chairman Resul Pookutty announced the decision, emphasizing the importance of artistic expression.

The move follows the Kerala government's determination to uphold freedom of expression. Delays in obtaining official exemptions for screening included films on controversial topics, such as the Palestine conflict and Sergei Eisenstein's classic, Battleship Potemkin.

The festival has sought to negotiate with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for permissions, with four of the 19 awaiting films granted exemptions earlier in the day.
