China has voiced strong opposition to the Grammy Award bestowed upon the Dalai Lama, accusing the recognition of being a potential weapon for anti-China political manipulation. The Dalai Lama, who received the Grammy for his spoken-word album, 'Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama', is seen by Beijing as a political exile challenging Chinese sovereignty under the guise of religious activity.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated Beijing's stance, describing the 90-year-old spiritual figure as a separatist rather than a purely religious leader. Lin emphasized that the award might be used by certain parties to further political agendas against China.
The Dalai Lama, who was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his nonviolent campaign for Tibet's liberation, expressed his gratitude for the Grammy. He sees the recognition not as personal achievement but as an opportunity to promote peace, compassion, and universal responsibility.
