Acclaimed actor Chiwetel Ejiofor has secured a role in a new 'Exorcist' movie alongside Scarlett Johansson, confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Renowned filmmaker Mike Flanagan, celebrated for interpreting Stephen King's tales, is at the helm of this project, which he assures will offer a 'fresh and bold' twist to the franchise.

Eschewing the conventional remake or sequel formula, the upcoming feature is set to navigate within the 'Exorcist' universe. Ejiofor is reuniting with Flanagan after the success of 'The Life of Chuck', which clinched the People's Choice Award at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Sources indicate Ejiofor will transform from ex-convict to priest, while Johansson takes on the role of a mother to Jacobi Jupe's young character, with Diane Lane also featuring prominently.

The original 1973 film, directed by William Friedkin, was a cultural phenomenon, garnering 10 Academy Award nominations for its haunting portrayal of demonic possession. The new iteration, backed by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Red Room Pictures, is set to hit theaters on March 12, 2027, courtesy of Universal Pictures. Production is slated to commence in New York City, with key figures including Jason Blum, Ryan Turek, and David Robinson involved in production. Ejiofor, known for his Oscar-nominated role in '12 Years a Slave', continues his compelling filmography with this promising undertaking.
