Record-Breaking Devotion: Over 22 Crore Pilgrims at Magh Mela

The 2023 Magh Mela saw an unprecedented turnout of over 22 crore devotees, surpassing previous records. The event coincided with Maha Shivratri, and tensions arose concerning Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati's pilgrimage. Despite controversies, the event proceeded with strong security arrangements, highlighting its cultural significance.

In a display of extraordinary devotion, the 2023 Magh Mela concluded successfully with over 22 crore devotees participating. This year's festival, coinciding with Maha Shivratri, witnessed a record turnout, surpassing the participation in the 2013 Kumbh Mela.

The District Magistrate, Manish Kumar Verma, confirmed that the event progressed smoothly with robust security measures in place. On the peak day of Mauni Amavasya, around 4.36 crore devotees took the holy dip in the Ganga and Sangam.

However, the event was not without controversy. Tensions emerged when Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati was reportedly prevented from undertaking his traditional pilgrimage at the Sangam, leading to ongoing friction with local authorities.
