The inaugural Sikkim International Film Festival is slated to take place in the state capital from March 19 to 22, as confirmed by officials. The event, hosted by Sikkim's Department of Information & Public Relations, in collaboration with India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation, aims to highlight Sikkim as an emerging destination for filmmaking and cultural discourse.

Sikkim's Music, Drama, Dance, and Film Board Chairman Tashi Tshering Bhutia expressed that the festival marks a significant milestone for the state's cinematic aspirations. Bhutia emphasized the festival's role in showcasing Sikkim's cultural heritage and natural beauty to the global cinema community, envisioning the event as a meeting ground for filmmakers, artistes, critics, and enthusiasts to engage in dialogue and collaboration.

The festival will feature special screenings, panel discussions, and masterclasses, including a tribute to the cinematic legacy of Satyajit Ray. It also includes a short film competition with entries from the region's filmmakers. Sikkim's initiative is part of its broader strategy to establish itself as a recognized hub for filmmaking, storytelling, and creative synergy.
