In Maharashtra, the rising water levels of Lonar Lake are causing significant concern as they submerge nearby temples, limiting access for devotees. Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik announced on Thursday that the state government will urgently pursue permission from the wildlife department to pump out the excess water.

The unusual rise in water levels is attributed to heavy rainfall and the opening of natural springs, causing the lake's depth to increase by up to 25 feet. Consequently, several temples, including Gaymukh, Ramgaya, Paphreshwar, and Kamla Ja Devi, are now inaccessible. State officials are coordinating with local authorities for swift action.

During a state assembly session, Minister Naik disclosed that Rs 41 lakh had been sanctioned for the project; however, progress is stalled due to inter-departmental coordination issues. Efforts are ongoing to expedite required permissions and allocate resources, with a substantial Rs 434 crore devoted to development projects in the area.
