The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is advancing as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) starts issuing notices for evacuation to residents of Shahu Nagar to pave the way for redevelopment. Recent notices are part of a broader government strategy to begin construction and modernize the area, aligned with prior directives to accelerate housing delivery.

Approximately 900 tenants will relocate temporarily, with options to move into transit accommodation in the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) buildings, or alternatively, rent homes. A definitive agreement will clarify relocation terms and the timeline, with the promise of new, permanent homes within five years.

In a bid to ensure a smooth transition, the government offers financial support including a monthly rent allowance adjusted annually. The new homes will provide improved living conditions with increased space, reflecting efforts to ensure residents' well-being and participation in the rehabilitation process.
