Stranger Things Returns: Animated Series Hits Theaters

Netflix will screen 'Stranger Things: Tales From ’85,' an animated series, in select theaters starting April 18. The series continues the saga of Eleven and her friends as they face new supernatural threats. This extends the already vast 'Stranger Things' franchise, which has grown to include stage plays and games.

Netflix is bringing fans back to the supernatural intrigue of 'Stranger Things' with the announcement of limited theatrical screenings for an animated series titled 'Stranger Things: Tales From '85.' Confirmed in a Tuesday press release, these screenings are slated to start on April 18 in select AMC theaters across the U.S., including high-profile venues like the Paris Theater in New York and Netflix House Philadelphia.

The series reunites the original creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, as executive producers and introduces showrunner Eric Robles, who previously created Nickelodeon's 'Fanboy & Chum Chum.' The story is set in winter 1985, and follows familiar characters Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max. While the group navigates normal teenage life filled with games and snowball fights, new terrors emerge, requiring them to unite once more for their town's safety.

'Tales From '85' represents another layer of expansion for the 'Stranger Things' universe, already set to broaden with a live-action spin-off under the Duffers' production company, Upside Down Pictures. Since its 2016 premiere, 'Stranger Things' has escalated into a multi-dimensional franchise featuring a Broadway play, video games, and immersive experiences—capturing viewers deeply engaged with its thrilling 1980s narrative.
