The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formed a four-member ad-hoc committee to oversee the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) following a directive from the Delhi High Court. The move aims to restore democratic governance in the sport.
This panel, led by Yashodhara Raje Scindia as chairperson, includes Francisco Lima from the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), advocate Vidushpat Singhania, and Col Ashok Yadav as members. The committee's mandate is to manage EFI affairs, initiate reforms, and hold elections for a new executive body.
The development follows the court's February judgement, which noted the expired tenure of the EFI's executive body and its lack of electoral mandate. The committee will act as a caretaker with administrative and financial control, aiming to align the federation's constitution with national governance laws. Concerns had arisen over the decision-making within the EFI, including controversy over selecting an individual facing legal issues as a team coach.
