Park Chan-wook's Western Venture: 'The Brigands of Rattlecreek'

Renowned South Korean auteur Park Chan-wook is set to preside over the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career. In conjunction with this, Park is also embarking on a major Western film project titled 'The Brigands of Rattlecreek', featuring a stellar ensemble cast.
According to Deadline, the film stars Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, Oscar nominee Austin Butler, and Pedro Pascal. Chinese actress Tang Wei, known for her role in Park's acclaimed 2022 film 'Decision to Leave', will also appear in the project. The screenplay, penned by S Craig Zahler, centers on a sheriff and a doctor seeking revenge against bandits exploiting a thunderstorm to terrorize a small town.
As producers Bradley Fischer and Park himself spearhead the production, themes of vengeance and the consequences of violence are explored, set against the backdrop of the American West. Park, also a producer through Moho Film, has been eager to realize the Black List script for over a decade since its initial surfacing 20 years ago. Despite diverse collaborations with Warner Bros and Amazon, Park maintains his passion and vision for this noteworthy project.
