Music Behind Bars: Thane Jail's Melodious Maharashtra Day
Inmates at Thane Central Jail celebrated Maharashtra Day with a unique cultural program featuring music and spiritual teachings. The initiative, part of a rehabilitation program, included an inmate orchestra and Bhagavad Gita teachings, aiming to aid prisoner reform and development through cultural enrichment.
In an unprecedented celebration, the Thane Central Jail's walls echoed with the sounds of a unique cultural program on Maharashtra Day. Inmates participated in a musical performance, underscored by the chanting of Bhagavad Gita verses and popular Hindi and Marathi songs.
This special event marks the first of its kind in the state’s prison system, highlighting the use of music as a tool for reform and rehabilitation. The program began with an interpretive recital of the 12th chapter of 'Shrimad Bhagavad Gita', followed by inmate performances of melodious film songs. Jail Superintendent Rani Bhosale noted the positive reception from those gathered.
Under the leadership of Additional DGP Suhas Warke and Special IG Yogesh Desai, the initiative aims to holistically develop prisoners. Mumbai's Shruti Sandhan Foundation has provided music training to inmates, while lessons from 'Learn Gita Sanstha Parivar' ensure a blend of spiritual learning. Officials hope these activities will foster personal growth and social reintegration for inmates.
