Shortage at Riyadh: Saudi Arabia's Only Legal Alcohol Store Struggles Amid Delays
Saudi Arabia's only legal alcohol shop in Riyadh is facing supply shortages due to shipping delays caused by the Iran conflict. The shop caters to non-Muslim diplomats and foreign residents amidst the kingdom's strict alcohol ban. Long queues and frayed nerves highlight the challenges of this supply crunch.
Saudi Arabia's solitary official alcohol establishment, situated in Riyadh's diplomatic district, is facing a supply crisis as shipments have been delayed due to the ongoing Iran conflict, according to visitors.
Despite its discreet nature, the shop, which operates under a special license amidst the country's alcohol prohibition, has seen shelves running empty with only premium-priced or obscure brands available.
The supply disruption has led to significant queues, with tensions rising among foreign residents. Staff noted shipment delays from Bahrain and the UAE, reflecting the challenges in Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s plans to increase expatriate appeal.
