Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI(M) veteran and former Kerala Chief Minister, connected with families who survived the devastating 2024 Mundakkai–Chooralmala landslide, as they began settling into homes at a new Kalpetta township. Vijayan expressed shared joy in this pivotal moment, highlighting the provision of hope-filled housing by the government.
In March, Vijayan handed over keys to 178 newly constructed houses for the victims. However, delays in facility completion meant families only began moving in recently. A township housewarming ceremony, marked by traditional 'paal kaachal', celebrated the first settlements, further highlighted by K Rajan's shared video tribute.
The landslides in Wayanad, which tragically claimed over 200 lives, led to the construction of 327 houses, described as a 'city of love' by its builders, symbolizing collective resilience and spirit aimed at aiding the disaster-stricken community.
