The Supreme Court has demanded answers from the high-powered committee responsible for the Thakur Shree Bankey Bihari Ji Maharaj Temple in Vrindavan. This decision comes after 'serious allegations' were pointed out in a plea regarding changes in darshan timings and the suspension of the Dehri Pooja, sparking concern over interference with religious practices.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi acknowledged the plea presented by temple 'sevayats,' represented by senior advocate Shyam Divan and lawyer Tanvi Dubey. The allegations claim the High-Powered Committee has overstepped its bounds by interfering with key religious rituals, challenging the sacred traditional practices of the temple.
Emphasizing the temple's unique historical adherence to seasonal rituals, the petitioners assert that changes imposed by the committee, such as altered darshan timings and exorbitant charges for services, disrupt essential religious customs. The court has given the committee a week to respond ahead of a hearing set for May 26, amidst ongoing legal conflict around the temple's management.
