Supreme Court Directs Petitioner to Move Patna High Court on Old Age Homes Issue

The Supreme Court advised a petitioner to contact the Patna High Court over the establishment of old age homes in Bihar. The Supreme Court has directed a petitioner, seeking the establishment of old age homes across Bihar, to approach the Patna High Court. This directive came as part of a plea highlighting the Bihar government's alleged non-compliance with the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi stated that the high court would be the most suitable forum to address these issues effectively. The petition had pointed out the closing of old age homes and relocation of their residents, raising concerns about the well-being of senior citizens in the state.

Though the apex court disposed of the plea, it granted the petitioner the liberty to seek redressal from the high court, urging it to take cognizance of the matter and ensure that any guidelines issued are adhered to promptly.
