Renowned filmmaker Peter Jackson has offered insight into the much-discussed exit of actor Ryan Gosling from the 2009 film 'The Lovely Bones.' In a recent discussion at Cannes, Jackson emphasized that the responsibility for casting decisions rests with the filmmakers, not the actors.

Gosling, originally cast to play the father of Saoirse Ronan's character, was replaced by Mark Wahlberg after gaining significant weight for the role without Jackson's prior approval. Jackson noted that recasting typically indicates a mismatch in the initial casting choice, stating, 'It's not because they did anything wrong.'

Saoirse Ronan, reflecting on the period during a podcast in 2024, expressed understanding of the decision and praised Wahlberg's portrayal, noting his real-life experience as a father. Gosling had previously shared differences in vision with Jackson regarding the character's physical appearance.
