Netflix Unveils New Brazilian Original Series 'MED'
Netflix introduces its first Brazilian medical drama, 'MED', featuring Clara Moneke. The announcement is part of Netflix's expansion of Brazilian content, including various genres like legal dramas, documentaries, and comedies, as part of new local productions, aiming to capture diverse global audiences.
In a significant move to broaden its global repertoire, Netflix has announced 'MED', its debut Brazilian medical drama, Deadline reports. The series, featuring actress Clara Moneke, marks a notable expansion in Netflix's Brazilian original content offerings.
Supported by production company Paranoid, 'MED' is among several new Brazilian projects recently greenlit by Netflix. The announcement follows the approval of 'Habeas Corpus', Netflix's first Brazilian legal drama currently in production by Cafe Royal. Additionally, the illustrious slate includes a compelling new documentary by Maria Farinha Filmes, chronicling sailor Tamara Klink's solo Arctic expedition, and an upcoming melodrama directed by renowned filmmaker Rogerio Gomes, produced by A Fabrica.
Further bolstering the line-up, two comedies will make their debut: 'Os Crentes', a comedy special, and a provocative exploration of open marriages, led by creator Alexandre Machado and directed by Jose Alvarenga Jr, under the banner of Manas Filmes. Earlier this year, Netflix opened a Brazil HQ, indicative of its commitment to delivering diverse narratives directly sourced from the region, reports Deadline.
Additional original content includes 'Radioactive Emergency', a soccer-themed drama 'Brasil 79', and an adaptation of Paulo Coelho's 'The Pilgrimage'. Elisabetta Zenatti, Vice President of Content at Netflix Brazil, emphasized the importance of initiatives like Rio2C in engaging with industry stakeholders and spotlighting the rich, diverse storytelling emerging from Brazil to connect with audiences worldwide, Deadline quotes.
