Royal Caribbean Scraps Water Park Plans Amid Environmental Concerns

In a significant move, Royal Caribbean has decided to abandon its proposed water park project on Mexico's southern Caribbean coast. The decision came after the Mexican environmental ministry denied the necessary permits, citing potential harm to the sensitive ecosystem of Mahahual.

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced in a press conference that the government is engaging with the company to find a more environmentally suitable location for the development. Royal Caribbean remains optimistic about other investment opportunities in Mexico despite the setback.

The project faced criticism from locals and environmental activists worried about the impact on Mahahual and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. While this proposal is halted, the cruise operator's beach club on Cozumel island is expected to open as planned.
