Britain has effectively barred prominent left-wing commentators Cenk Uygur, co-host of The Young Turks, and his nephew Hasan Piker, from entering the country. They were scheduled to speak at SXSW London and the University of Oxford this weekend.

The decision comes amidst controversy over their outspoken criticism of Israel. Uygur likened Israel’s actions to 'Nazi logic' in its conflict with Lebanon, while Piker has made incendiary remarks about Hamas and Israel.

The UK’s interior ministry stated that allowing their entry may not serve the public good, reflecting a broader scrutiny over free speech laws in Britain. The SXSW website did not reference Israel in its descriptions of Uygur and Piker’s planned sessions.
