Seattle Soccer Extravaganza: Floating World Cup Stadium Takes Center Stage
Seattle's pro soccer clubs, the Sounders and the Reign, have transformed a barge into a floating soccer venue to celebrate the World Cup. With a mini soccer pitch and a massive video screen, this innovative setup is part of the RAVE Foundation's initiative to build soccer pitches across Washington state.
In a unique tribute to the World Cup, Seattle's Sounders and Reign soccer clubs have created a one-of-a-kind fan experience by converting a barge into a floating soccer stadium. This novel venue, docked on Seattle's waterfront, features a mini soccer pitch and a colossal video screen for match viewings. The initiative is spearheaded by the RAVE Foundation, the charitable arm of the clubs, which aims to construct 52 mini soccer pitches in communities across Washington state where children have limited access to safe play areas.
Courtney Carter, the chief revenue officer of the clubs, highlighted the transformative power of providing recreational spaces for children. "Giving a child a ball and a place to play can truly change a community," Carter said. The World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, includes several matches in Seattle, prompting the clubs to creatively engage local fans.
Western Towboat, a company familiar with moving unique loads, eagerly collaborated on the project. According to Russ Shrewsbury, vice president of Western Towboat, the company was thrilled to take on the challenge. The barge, which will host soccer clinics and offer local culinary specialties, aims to be both a celebration and a community-building initiative, showcasing soccer's global appeal.
