With the monsoon season, comes myriad of diseases as well. The World Bank estimates 21% of communicable diseases in India are water related. Sights of waterlogged drains and stagnant water is common during the monsoon.

The deadly water-borne diseases infect the person in no time. Long hours of stagnant water gives rise to various diseases. To avoid "Nipah virus" like a crisis situation, it's important to keep oneself updated about the diseases and the ways to prevent and protect oneself.

The chances of getting infected with infections and diseases increase during this weather. Rain brings diseases such as common cold to diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya, cholera, typhoid, hepatitis, etc. Kids, elderly and the sick ones are more vulnerable to such diseases.

  • To avoid these its advisable to make changes in the food habits as transmission of bacteria and virus becomes easier due to the availability of moisture.
  • Good personal hygiene needs to be maintained in order to keep monsoon-related infections at bay.
  • Home cooked and warm food, boiled or filtered water is best during this season.
  • Avoid eating from outside vendors; these ground-level precautions and habits are sure to keep you and your family protected from the diseases.
  • Flu, common cold generally last for 5-6 days.
  • Its advisable to drink warm milk with turmeric to fight the initial stage of the cold. Turmeric is infused with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to combat cold. It is also a good ingredient to boost one's immunity.
  • Ginger, garliac, black pepper are other some commonly found ingredient used in the indian household.
  • If fever, body ache persists for more than 2 days, its advisable to consult a doctor and get tested for more occurrence of severe diseases.
