Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor designate Manoj Sinha arrived here on Thursday following his appointment to the Raj Bhawan, officials said. Sinha was received at the airport by Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam and Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh, the officials said. They said Sinha, who is likely to take oath as the second lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, drove straight to the Raj Bhawan from the airport. The 61-year-old former minister of state for railways will succeed Girish Chander Murmu who resigned from the post late on Wednesday night. Murmu served as the first lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir after the Centre revoked the special status of the erstwhile state and sliced it into two union territories. Murmu, who is tipped to be the next Comptroller and Auditor General of India, served in the office for just over nine months.
