MLB 2019 schedule: Yankees-Red Sox as royals, A's-M's in Japan

Tokyo is host to 2019 Opening Day in Major League Baseball. The Opening Series featuring the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners will be played March 20-21, with traditional Opening Day held stateside on March 28 with 10 division matchups.

NFL notebook: Helmet rule remains unchanged after league review

Despite a review by the NFL competition committee, there will be no changes to the controversial helmet rule established in the spring, NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent announced Wednesday. The committee held a conference call in which feedback from players, coaches and game officials was reviewed.

The NFL announced a four-game suspension for Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith on Tuesday for violating the league's personal-conduct policy. The Ravens released a statement saying they "fully support the NFL's decision," adding the league "found evidence of threatening and emotionally abusive behaviors by Jimmy toward his former girlfriend that showed a pattern of improper conduct. Our player's behavior was inappropriate and wrong. ..."

Packers QB Rodgers: New deal shouldn't hamper the team

As Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers work toward an extension, the quarterback insists he's "not trying to screw" the team when it comes to staying competitive. In a wide-ranging interview with ESPN Radio's "Wilde and Tausch" airing in multiple segments this week, Rodgers termed his situation with the Packers as a "partnership."

MLB notebook: Yanks put Chapman (knee) on DL

The New York Yankees placed left-hander Aroldis Chapman on the 10-day disabled list due to left knee tendinitis on Wednesday, one day after he departed a game against the Miami Marlins. Chapman underwent an MRI exam and other tests in Miami on Wednesday. He is slated to see a New York doctor on Friday. There is no immediate timetable per how long Chapman will be sidelined.

NCAA adopts new evaluation tool to replace RPI

Say goodbye to the RPI and hello to the NET. The NCAA is doing away with the rating percentage index as a tool to rank basketball teams and seed the NCAA Tournament bracket, replacing it with the NCAA Evaluation Tool.

Tiger: Thought 'I was done' at 2017 Masters

Having repeatedly detailed how grateful he is to be healthy and competing on the PGA Tour again this season, Tiger Woods reflected Wednesday on a time when he thought he was done with golf. Nick Faldo, a six-time major winner and analyst for CBS and Golf Channel, said on the Dan Patrick Show earlier this month that he overheard Woods at the 2017 Masters dinner -- an event for previous champions -- that he was "done" and that "I won't play golf again."

Djokovic says injury showed him how impatient he was

Novak Djokovic heads into the U.S. Open in sizzling form after collecting a fourth Wimbledon title and completing a sweep of Masters series events over the last month, but the Serb admits there were times when the long road back from injury brought "more than a few moments of doubt" about his future. An elbow injury forced Djokovic to retire against Czech Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2017. After that came a series of early tournament exits and, finally, surgery.

MLB roundup: Nats stun Phils on Zimmerman walk-off HR

Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning off Seranthony Dominguez to give the Washington Nationals an 8-7 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. With Philadelphia up 7-6, Dominguez (1-4) retired the first two batters of the ninth before Juan Soto doubled. Zimmerman then homered to right-center -- the original call of a double on the field was overturned -- which let Washington walk off with its second straight win in the series.
