White Sox manager Renteria cleared to return

Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria was cleared to return to the team on Friday afternoon after a bout with lightheadedness and he resumed his duties by managing Friday night's game in Detroit.

Renteria flew to Detroit and reached Comerica Park prior to first pitch. He had missed the previous four games.

Bench coach Joe McEwing ran the club during Renteria's absence.

"It's great news," McEwing said of Renteria's return prior to the game against the Tigers. "He took care all of the tests."

Renteria, 56, began feeling lightheaded prior to Monday's road game against the Minnesota Twins. He was taken to a Minneapolis hospital and released the following day.

He later underwent additional medical tests at a Chicago hospital as doctors looked to identify the reason for his condition.

The White Sox went 2-2 with McEwing overseeing the club.

"Under the circumstances, it's not the way you'd want to go about it, but ... it's been a lot of fun," McEwing said. "We prepare to try to put our ballclub in the best position to be successful. In that respect, everything stays the same on a daily basis.

"But being able to manage it and put your twist on it, it's been a great learning experience and one that I never take for granted and continue to learn every day and build on it."
