Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral A K Chawla, Tuesday inaugurated the Mid-Year Refit and Infrastructure Review (MYRR & MYIR) of the Western and Southern Naval Commands.

Vice Admiral G S Pabby, Chief of Material at Integrated Headquarters, MoD(Navy), New Delhi, presided over the two-day conference.

The MYRR was primarily aimed at reviewing the present progress of refits of both Western Naval Command and Southern Naval Command ships, while the MYIR served to finalize the future infrastructure needs of naval bases at Mumbai, Karwar, and Kochi, a Defence press release said.

The projects discussed at the MYIR included the Naval Ship Repair Yard, Kochi, planned for a significant expansion in the near future with the construction of a new dry dock, as well as the reconstruction and augmentation of an existing jetty to cater for berthing more ships in future, the release said.

MYRR and MYIR in the navy are undertaken in two sets, with WNC and SNC forming one set and ENC and Andaman Nicobar Command forming the other.

The Annual Refit Conference and Annual Infrastructure Review are however carried out consolidated for all Commands, it added.
