Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday said that he was against the trend of candidates getting elected unopposed in Lok Sabha or Assembly elections asserting that such culture was against the democratic spirit.
"This must stop and there must be elections instead of nominations in every constituency with the full democratic process," he said at the concluding session of the Yuva Sammelan organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
He recalled that in 2014, 11 candidates in Arunachal Pradesh were elected unopposed.
He called for elections in his Jang-Mukto constituency that has not witnessed any election for 15 long years.
