The destruction of the dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in southern Ukraine does not pose a direct threat to the country's electricity supply, the Ukrainian energy ministry said on Tuesday.

"The explosion...did not directly affect the situation in the country's energy system. There are no threats to the stability of the electricity supply," it said in a statement. "The produced electricity is sufficient to cover the needs of consumers."
