Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy inspected the Vizag Steel Plant on Thursday, following his arrival in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday evening.

During his visit, Vizag Steel Plant's president, Atul Bhatt, briefed Kumaraswamy on the plant's operations, expansion plans, and various departmental specifics. The union minister gathered extensive information regarding the plant's capacity, staffing, management, and overall departmental performance.

Kumaraswamy also attended a meeting at the administrative office, where he was apprised of the plant's administration, financial transactions, profit and loss statements, production capabilities, and iron ore supply. Lok Sabha MP from Visakhapatnam, Sribharat, and other representatives urged the central government to provide necessary capital or consider merging the plant with the Steel Authority of India.

The minister later held a separate meeting with labor union leaders, who insisted the plant should remain under government control and requested the allocation of essential iron ore mines. Addressing the labor leaders, Kumaraswamy highlighted his ongoing efforts to revitalize the Vizag Steel Company and pointed to the goals set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, including the ambitious targets of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' initiatives.

Kumaraswamy underscored that he has been working diligently on Vizag Steel issues since assuming office and asked for time to make substantive changes. He assured that efforts would continue under the guidance of the Prime Minister to revamp the plant. The visit included participation from several key figures, including Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel Bhupathiraju Verma and Visakhapatnam MP Sribharat, among others. (ANI)
