Around 50 girls from border villages in the Akhnoor sector took part in an air rifle and pistol competition, according to a defence spokesman. Held as part of the 25th anniversary of Kargil 'Vijay Diwas,' the event aimed to instill confidence and self-defence skills in the participants while inspiring future involvement in national defense.
The spokesman noted that the participants, from the last border village of the Pallanwala sector, were trained in the basics of weapon handling and firing techniques over seven days. The competition filled the rural girls with enthusiasm and confidence. One participant expressed her excitement and newfound desire to pursue this skill further at state and national levels.
Army officials stated that the initiative aimed to promote women's empowerment and gender equality, while also creating strong citizens capable of contributing significantly to the country’s defense and progress. Some participants showcased exceptional talent in shooting, highlighting the potential for excellence at higher levels with the right resources and guidance.
