Assam CM Launches App for Amrit Brikshya Andolan, Targeting 3 Crore Saplings

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced an app for the second edition of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan. The initiative aims to plant three crore saplings this year and involves 4000 distribution points. The scheme targets planting 10 crore saplings in four years to expand forest cover from 36 to 38 percent.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a new app for the second edition of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan at the Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati on Friday. During the press conference, Sarma announced that the forest department has prepared four crore in-house saplings this year, aiming to plant three crore.

Sarma highlighted that 90 percent of the 1.12 crore saplings planted last year survived, emphasizing the program's success. He stated, 'This year, our target is a three crore sapling plantation.' Sarma reiterated the state's long-term goal of planting 10 crore saplings within three to four years and increasing forest cover from 36 percent to 38 percent.

The Amrit Brikshya Andolan will run from August 1 to 15. To facilitate the initiative, 4000 distribution points will be established across the state. Sarma encouraged citizens to register on the app and upload plantation photos. This year, defense personnel, including the Army and Indian Air Force, will also participate.
