Karnataka CM Criticizes Union Budget for Ignoring State Demands

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed disappointment over the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, accusing it of ignoring the state's demands. He highlighted unaddressed requests including funds for major projects and support for farmers. He criticized the budget as anti-people and negligent towards certain communities.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has voiced strong disapproval of the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, accusing the central government of failing to meet the state’s demands. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Siddaramaiah declared that the budget ignores Karnataka's interests, describing it as a 'Chombu' or empty vessel.

The Chief Minister recounted how Karnataka's various requests, including a grant of Rs. 5300 crores for the Upper Bhadra Project, were overlooked. He lamented that even previous commitments were not fulfilled, mentioning the absence of funding for essential regional development initiatives like the Mahadayi Mekedatu and Upper Krishna Projects. Siddaramaiah also criticized the lack of support for backward taluks and farmers, calling the budget anti-people.

Siddaramaiah further condemned the central government’s neglect in acknowledging long-standing demands, such as setting up an AIIMS in Raichur and funding infrastructure in Bangalore. He highlighted the reduction in grants for health, IT, and communication, adding that this budget betrays Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities. He announced plans to present their grievances when the 16th Finance Commission visits Karnataka on August 28.
