The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Delhi police concerning Umar Khalid's bail application in a UAPA case tied to the broader conspiracy of the 2020 Delhi Riots. The decision was made by Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Girish Kathpaliya.

Umar Khalid, a former JNU student leader, has been behind bars since September 2020, accused in the larger conspiracy of the 2020 Delhi Riots. Despite the filing of charge sheets, the investigation continues. Prior attempts to secure bail were rejected, with the trial court upholding lower court decisions citing prima facie evidence against Khalid.

Special Judge Sameer Bajpai upheld the denial of bail, referring to the High Court's assessment of the case against Khalid. The next hearing on Khalid's bail application is set for August 29, with the court previously emphasizing that detailed analysis cannot be conducted at the bail stage.
