Heavy Rains in Uttarakhand Trigger Landslides and Rising Water Levels

Continuous heavy rains in Uttarakhand's Garhwal division caused the Ganga river's water level to rise and triggered landslides, resulting in casualties and destruction. Authorities are on high alert, relocating affected residents and coordinating relief efforts.

Continuous heavy rains in the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand have led to a sharp rise in the Ganga river's water level at Rishikesh, resulting in dangerous conditions. Tragically, two lives were lost when debris fell on their house.

Tehri District Magistrate Mayur Dixit announced that the village's residents will be relocated to safe areas, with the district administration arranging necessary accommodations. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow over the casualties from a landslide in Touli village near Budhakedar, Tehri district, and directed immediate assistance and relocation for those affected. The Chief Minister offered prayers for the departed souls and strength for their families.

CM Dhami has instructed district magistrates to remain vigilant and coordinate with relief and rescue teams in response to the ongoing rain situation. He assured that he is in constant communication with officials in the affected areas. The Chief Minister has also urged state residents to venture out only for essential work, in light of the Meteorological Department's heavy rain alert across various regions in Uttarakhand.

Disaster Management Authority Joint CEO Mohammad Obaidulla Ansari, in an exclusive interview with ANI, confirmed an orange alert for Dehradun and Bageshwar and a yellow alert for other districts. Following the weather department's alerts, all districts have been instructed to maintain vigilance in disaster control rooms. The recent heavy rains have triggered landslides, blocking multiple points on the highway to Badrinath.
