Residents of the South Kashmiri region of Anantnag are escaping the intense summer heat in the cool waters of their local ponds and canals. As heat waves sweep the country, families and friends come together in these natural retreats to find relief from the scorching sun.

Children splash and play while adults wade through the refreshing waters, seeking a break from the oppressive heat. A resident told ANI that global warming is driving people to seek comfort in streams and ponds. 'This year it's been very hot... Here it's been 33 degrees recently; we are really suffering from this heat. Children and women can't venture outside because of the heat. I think there should be extended summer vacations. Global warming is forcing people to find relief in these streams and ponds,' he said.

'We only pray for rain at the moment to reduce the heat. Global warming has affected horticulture, which is our backbone here. I just pray for rain,' he added.

These water bodies offer not only physical relief but also serve as communal gathering spots that foster a sense of togetherness and joy. Surrounded by lush greenery, the canals and ponds provide a picturesque setting, enhancing the experience. For many residents, these outings have become cherished moments of relaxation and bonding, integral to their summer traditions.

In a region where modern amenities are not always accessible, these natural water bodies play a vital role in helping locals cope with the challenging summer temperatures, according to ANI.
