The Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party government is set to present a supplementary budget of approximately Rs 30,000 crore in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The budget, designed to allocate funds for the Kumbh Mela, bus purchases, industrial projects, and new bridge construction, will be discussed on the second day of the monsoon session.

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has already approved the supplementary budget, which aims to facilitate significant state projects. Additionally, on Monday, the UP government introduced the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion (Amendment) Bill. This controversial bill proposes stringent punishments, including life imprisonment, for cases deemed as 'love jihad'.

Samajwadi Party leader Fakhrul Hasan Chand criticized the amendment, accusing the BJP of engaging in negative politics without addressing issues like unemployment and examination paper leaks. Monday also saw the introduction of four new cabinet ministers - OP Rajbhar, Anil Kumar, Dara Singh Chauhan, and Sunil Sharma - to the legislative assembly, while Samajwadi Party's Mata Prasad Pandey was welcomed as the Leader of Opposition by Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana.
