Two individuals sustained injuries early Thursday when the ceiling plaster of a room in a house collapsed in the Diva area of Thane district. The Thane Municipal Corporation reported that the incident occurred around 4.30 am at Shriganesh Chawl in Diva.
The building, which is reportedly several years old, had residents fast asleep when the ceiling plaster suddenly gave way. The injured, 35-year-old Sharmila Santosh Shinde and 41-year-old Santosh Shinde, have been admitted to a government hospital in Kalwa, where they are currently receiving treatment. Officials are awaiting further updates on their condition.
Authorities are investigating the incident to understand the cause of the ceiling collapse. Meanwhile, concern over the structural integrity of old buildings in the area has risen among residents.
