State-owned Coal India Ltd announced a 6.6% increase in production, achieving 244.3 million tonnes (MT) in the first four months of the ongoing fiscal year.

The company had a production of 229.1 MT during the April-July period of the previous financial year, according to its filing with BSE.

July alone saw a 2.5% rise in production, amounting to 55 MT compared to 53.7 MT in the same month last fiscal.

Coal India's offtake also improved, rising to 257.2 MT in the April-July period from 246.3 MT a year ago.

In July, the company's offtake was marginally higher at 59.6 MT compared to 59.5 MT during the same month of the previous fiscal year.

Coal India contributes over 80% of the country's domestic coal output.
