The tragic deaths of a woman and her son, who drowned in an open drain in East Delhi, have ignited a political blame game. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of neglecting Delhi's citizens' welfare.
Dikshit visited the protest site in Mayur Vihar Phase 3 on Wednesday, where locals expressed outrage over the incident. He condemned both parties for their focus on mutual allegations rather than public safety. 'AAP only cares about winning elections,' Dikshit stated, urging both elected officials and the government to learn from this tragic event.
Meanwhile, AAP staged a protest outside the LG Secretariat Office, calling for the resignation of LG Vinai Kumar Saxena. AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta insisted the drain falls under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), making it the LG's responsibility. The LG's office refuted this, claiming the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), controlled by AAP, manages the drain.
AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar and Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai joined in the criticism, accusing the LG and BJP of negligence. The incident has highlighted significant gaps in infrastructure maintenance and governance, prompting calls for immediate action and accountability.
