In preparation for a secure Independence Day 2024, Punjab Police executed a statewide cordon and search operation targeting judicial complexes on Monday. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized the importance of peaceful celebrations, leading Punjab Police to inspect all District and Sub-Divisional Courts under the directive of DGP Gaurav Yadav.
Special DGP Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, revealed that Police Commissioners (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were tasked to oversee the operation personally. They were instructed to form adequate police teams, supervised by SP-rank officers, to check suspicious activities around court complexes. The operation included the inspection of parked vehicles using the Vahan app, and ensuring that security devices like Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs) and CCTV cameras were functional.
Shukla further detailed that the police teams frisked 1421 suspicious individuals near court complexes, checked 1850 parked vehicles, issued 62 challans, and impounded one vehicle. This detailed operation aimed to secure judicial complexes and curb anti-social activities. Additionally, CPs and SSPs were directed to enhance police patrolling around susceptible areas to bolster surveillance.
