State Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty on Tuesday directed the KSEB to provide free power for six months to three wards in the Meppadi panchayat affected by recent landslides.

The initiative will benefit 1,139 customers, who will also have their outstanding dues waived, the minister announced.

Krishnankutty lauded the Kerala State Electricity Board's (KSEB) prompt efforts to restore power in Chooralmala, stating that the restoration played a critical role in the rescue missions. The task was challenging due to the extensive damage caused by heavy winds and torrential rains.

He highlighted that out of the 19,000 connections under the KSEB Meppadi section, 385 household and 70 commercial connections in the Mundakkai-Chooralmala disaster zones were completely disrupted, with damage exceeding Rs 3 crore.
