Amid ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, the North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and ensure no illegal immigration occurs in the North Eastern states. NESO insists that no Bangladeshi should be granted asylum or rehabilitation in the entire region.

In a letter addressed to Amit Shah, NESO stresses the need for rigorous border management between North East India and Bangladesh to prevent illegal migration. Representing student bodies from the seven North Eastern states, NESO warns of serious ramifications due to Bangladesh's internal conflict, highlighting the common boundaries shared by Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Assam.

The letter recalls historical instances of mass immigration during the 1947 partition and the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, leading to demographic imbalances and tensions in states like Assam and Tripura. NESO underscores the adverse impacts on indigenous communities, including land grabbing and cultural assimilation, and urges immediate government action to protect native populations.
