In the wake of allegations by US-based short seller Hindenburg against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch, Congress leader KC Venugopal has called for her resignation and a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the matter. Venugopal stated, "The country is expecting that without any delay the SEBI chairperson should resign from the post."
NCP-SCP leader Rohit Pawar echoed the sentiment, urging the government to conduct an inquiry. "The government should look into it and conduct an inquiry. If the government wants it can set up a JPC also," Pawar said. He also criticized the current administration for its inability to create jobs, suggesting Hindenburg's motives might be rooted in targeting Indian firms.
Meanwhile, Madhabi Buch and her husband have vehemently denied the allegations through a press release, labeling them as baseless and malicious. The Supreme Court has already cleared the Adani group of similar accusations earlier this year, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing saga.
