A tragic incident unfolded in west Delhi's Khayala area, where a 28-year-old mother, Shivani, killed her six-day-old daughter due to social stigma surrounding the birth of her fourth girl child, police reported on Saturday.
The police received a PCR call at 5.30 am on Friday about the missing baby. DCP (west) Vichitra Veer stated that the girl's mother initially claimed she had fed the baby around 2 am and found her missing at 4.30 am. Suspicion grew when Shivani, despite her medical condition, insisted on going to the hospital for stitch removal.
During the search, police discovered the baby's body in a bag on a nearby roof. Shivani later confessed, citing societal pressure as her reason for the heinous act. She has been arrested, and a murder case has been registered, pending postmortem results.
