A 3-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted while she was sleeping on a cot in front of her house in Delhi's Jain Nagar, falling under the Begumpur police station limits, authorities reported on Wednesday.

According to officials, the incident occurred on September 9. The victim's mother stated in her complaint that her daughter was sleeping outside when she suddenly went missing. After searching for her daughter, she found her in nearby bushes.

A 25-year-old man, identified as the accused, was at the scene but fled when spotted. The mother promptly lodged a complaint, resulting in a case being registered at Begumpur police station. The child was medically examined at BSA Hospital. The accused has since been arrested, and further investigation is currently underway.
