In a landmark event, 90-year-old Ruldu Ram cast his vote for the first time in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Originally from West Pakistan, Ram migrated during the Partition in 1947.
Thousands of West Pakistan refugees, along with Valmikis and Gurkhas in the border regions of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua, celebrated their newly acquired right to vote following the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A.
The celebration marks a historical moment for these communities who have long lacked citizenship rights, now gaining full participation in the democratic process, employment opportunities, and land ownership.
