Controversy Erupts Over Coimbatore Blast Mastermind's Funeral Procession

Union Minister L Murugan on Wednesday condemned the DMK government in Tamil Nadu for allowing the funeral procession of SA Basha, the mastermind behind the 1998 Coimbatore bombings. Murugan criticized the DMK for supporting a terrorist responsible for an attack that claimed more than 56 lives and injured over 100 people.

The funeral procession of SA Basha, founder of the Al-Ummar outfit, was a provocation for BJP leaders, including party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, who accused the DMK-led administration of appeasing minority groups and putting 'vote bank security' above 'national security.' Poonawalla expressed outrage through social media, labeling the ceremony as state-sponsored support for a terrorist.

Tamil Nadu's DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan defended the procession, stating it was merely the exercising of family rights and had no government involvement. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai announced the Coimbatore BJP unit would observe a black day, criticizing the government's handling of law and order.
