Tripura, renowned for its passionate cricket history dating back to the 1970s, stands on the brink of unveiling an international-standard cricket stadium. This ambitious Rs 185-crore project is at its final stages, promising to elevate the state's cricketing infrastructure to new heights.
President of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), Tapan Lodh, highlighted Tripura's cricket heritage and its participation in national tournaments like the Ranji Trophy. He emphasized the strategic steps taken to establish an international-level stadium capable of seating 22,000 fans, a vision set in motion in early 2017.
After a pandemic-induced delay, the stadium is now 80% complete, with significant components like LED lighting and steelwork pending. Lodh expressed gratitude to the state government's decisive support, particularly lauding the Chief Minister's commitment. The stadium's completion is poised to mark a transformative moment for cricket in Tripura.
Construction, initiated following the Lodha Commission's recommendations for district-level cricket expansion, has advanced to its final phases. The site at Narsinghgarh is ready, with local tournaments already being hosted on the newly finished ground.
Enhancements like high-mast LED lights and power metal lighting are underway, signaling a major milestone for Tripura, which aims to host elite tournaments, potentially including the Indian Premier League (IPL). As the anticipation builds, the cricket-loving community in Tripura eagerly awaits the stadium's completion, set for next July.
