India on Track for Renewable Energy Goals Amid Land and Storage Challenges
India is set to meet its 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030 but faces challenges in achieving 2,000 GW by 2047 due to land, transmission, and storage issues, says SECI CMD R P Gupta. India's proactive approach and state cooperation are vital to overcoming these hurdles.

India is on a promising path to reach its target of 500 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy production by 2030, as stated by SECI's CMD R P Gupta. While this near-term goal appears achievable, the nation may encounter obstacles in realizing the more daunting task of generating 2,000 GW by 2047.
The challenges, Gupta highlighted, primarily revolve around securing adequate land, as renewable energy projects demand vast spaces. Additionally, efficient energy transmission and advancing storage technologies remain critical hurdles to surmount. Despite these, India's regulatory frameworks and ecosystem management instill confidence in reaching the 2030 objectives.
Gupta emphasized the strategic role of state governments in mitigating land availability issues, citing proactive states like Madhya Pradesh, which demonstrate potential in attracting significant investments. Streamlining land acquisition processes could be pivotal in surmounting the looming challenges in India's renewable energy expansion plan.
